Next Session: 2026.04.15 – “Demystifying tissue clearing: Takeaways from teaching clearing workshops” presentation by Kyle Kern, Miltenyi Biotec Inc.

Event Abstract: Please join us for an educational presentation on lightsheet imaging and tissue clearing by a scientist with considerable practical expertise in these areas. Attendees interested in learning more about recommended procedures for clearing biological tissues for light microscopy imaging of fixed samples will be able to ask questions during this online presentation, which will be suitable for any scientific career stage. As well as gaining valuable information, this event will connect researchers to experienced scientific experts in industry. Tissue clearing combined with advanced light microscopy has emerged as a powerful approach for imaging intact, thick biological specimens with high spatial resolution. By rendering tissues optically transparent through the removal or homogenization of light-scattering components such as lipids, clearing techniques enable deep penetration of light and preservation of three-dimensional architecture. When paired with imaging modalities such as light-sheet microscopy, these methods allow rapid, comprehensive visualization of cellular structures, neural circuits, and molecular markers across whole organs or large tissue volumes, advancing research in fields ranging from neuroscience to cancer biology.
Talk Abstract: Tissue clearing is an essential part of 3D fluorescent microscopy for imaging tissue ranging from small organoids to whole organisms; it can also be a confusing and time-consuming barrier for aspiring and experienced microscopists alike. With a publication history that is rapidly evolving and highly nuanced knowing where to get started and how to get help can often be a mystery for many, stopping them before they even get started. Miltenyi Biotec created a tissue clearing workshop program designed to help overcome this barrier and to empower scientists to get started on the road to 3D microscopy. This talk is designed to share some of the science taught at and the strategies learned from giving these workshops in order to help create a starting point on tissue clearing for microscopists and imaging facilities.
