Presentation Title: Towards Equal Opportunities in Swedish Academia – Experiences from and Lessons Learned at Uppsala University with a Perspective on Women´s Mental Health

Biography:
Professor Ingela Nyström’s research interest is medical image analysis and interactive visualization of biomedical data. The career has developed from her background with a PhD degree in computerised image analysis from Uppsala University, Sweden, in 1997.
She has held a number of leadership positions, for example, as Director of the Centre for Image Analysis, Sweden’s largest academic research unit in image analysis, during 2011-2022. Since 2024, she is Deputy Director of Uppsala University´s Center for Women´s Mental Health (WOMHER).
In addition, she has served on a number of committees and organisations – at the University, nationally, and internationally. Early in her career, she was elected board member and President 2002-2006 of the Swedish Society for Automated Image Analysis (SSBA) and for 12 years, she served as member of the Executive Committee and President 2014-2016 of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR). Other examples are that she was Vice-Chair of the Swedish Council for Research Infrastructure (RFI) during 2014-2019 and is currently board member of the Norwegian Sigma2 AS.
