BINA Event Support Program

Last updated – Nov 2025

BINA is combining its Professional Development Program and Regional Event Support Program into a single streamlined program- the BINA Event Support Program. This program will provide support for a broad range of events, including training courses and events focused on microscopy techniques, management, leadership or teaching skills, and image data management and analysis, while continuing to foster community engagement.

The integration streamlines funding opportunities, reduces administrative complexity, and enables BINA to respond more effectively to the varied ways members learn, collaborate, and engage across North America. Events can include workshops, training courses, regional or national meetings and can be either in-person or virtual.

NOTE: Individual support to attend a specific non-supported event can now be applied for through the BINA Exchange of Experience Program. To avoid duplicate funding, BINA will not provide event support program funding for members to attend events that are already supported by other BINA-funded initiatives. Approved events will be listed on this page for reference.

Key Notes for Organizers

  • All course and event organizers should review this program and submit applications for support as appropriate.
  • In-person events can only be held in BINA member countries – Canada, Mexico, the United States, and its territories.*Virtual events will be on a case by case basis.
  • At least one Event Organizer or lead must be a registered BINA member (it’s free – no dues or membership fees!)
  • Applications for support will be accepted on a rolling basis by submitting this form at least 4 months in advance of the event start date.
  • Utilization and distribution of funds is largely at the discretion of the organizers. Organizers should present a case for alignment of their event goals with BINA’s mission and values.
    • It will be up to individual event organizers to coordinate any award travel or registration support to individuals. BINA does not reimburse individuals or attendees directly.
    • Event funds cannot be used for alcohol, honoraria, or prizes.
  • BINA will no longer review individual applications; all application reviews will be managed by the course organizers.
  • Organizers must include the BINA logo on the event/course website and space provided in the program to share a 15 minute presentation about BINA (this could be in person from a BINA member in attendance or a pre-recorded or virtual presentation).
  • A post-event report is required within one month of event conclusion, including
    • Total number of participants,
    • Geographic home/regions of participants,
    • What the BINA funds ultimately covered
    • Link(s) to any social media posts acknowledging BINA event support.
    • The report should also include the names of any BINA members who participated in the event if possible (organizers, speakers, trainers, attendees etc)
